GLSS-Great Lakes Super Sprints

Merrill, MI – Labor Day weekend will be $5,000 to win and $500 to start Saturday night for the 1st Annual Great Lakes Fall Sprintacular at Tri-City Motor Speedway. Friday night, Aug 31 will be the final race of the regular season and payout $2,500 to win and $350 to start.

Tri-City Motor Speedway located near Auburn, MI was built as a ¼ dirt track in 1947. It was transformed to a ½ mile multi-turn asphalt track, more famously known as the Trick-Track of the World. With new ownership in 2010, Steve Puvalowski converted the speedway back to a dirt track. Dismantling the grandstands on the East side of the asphalt track and building new stands on the West side of the old back stretch, Puvalowski and his brother Dennis nestled a new 3/8th mile clay track inside the asphalt track, leaving the asphalt track in place for line ups and exiting the new track. Today Steve and Erika Puvalowski continue to work hard to improve the facility and track experience for fans and racers alike.

Tri-City Motor Speedway is perfectly located in Central Michigan to host the 2 day, year-end event for Great Lakes Super Sprints, sitting just under 2 hours from Canada, 2 ½ hours from Ohio and 2 ¾ hours from Indiana.

Friday night, 8/31 will be the last regular season race for TCMS and for GLSS. Classes will be Mini-wedges, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pro Stocks, Outlaw Late Models and 360 Winged Sprints. OLM and Sprints will be qualifying and the sprints will be the 3rd class all evening.

Saturday night will be a Sprintacular, showcasing the best 360 Winged Sprints and drivers in our region along with the Lane Automotive Michigan Traditional Sprints. We will also be featuring exhibition races by the Vintage Sprint Car Club members, giving our fans a trip down sprint car memory lane. There will be a car show from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday where you can see these cars up close and they will be in the pits all evening.

The race format for Saturday nights main event will be a typical GLSS show: Pill draw for qualifying spot and then filling the heats from qualifying. We will take 20 cars to the A-Main that have worked their way through the heat races and B-Mains. We will, however take 24 cars to the Feature race. The last 4 spots will be filled by the 4 highest GLSS points finishers not to have made the A-Main.

A rain date has been set for the Saturday night show for Sunday, September 2nd.
