GLSS-Great Lakes Super Sprints

DAGGETT IS PERFECT SATURDAY AT BUTLER

Quincy, MI (Saturday, June 5, 2021) - As the wrap-up of a double-header weekend, Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by Engine Pro and ARP (GLSS) unloaded at Butler Motor Speedway for the first time of the 2021 season. A full field of 24 - 360 winged Sprint Cars prepared for a duel at the Battlegrounds, but in the end, redemption and a long-awaited victory were the stories of the night.

A pair of former GLSS Champions led the field to the green flag ahead of 25 laps around the 3/8ths high banked oval, with Dustin Daggett and Chase Ridenour leading the charge. Daggett wasted no time jumping out to the early lead down the backstretch, but was quickly halted by a lap one caution for Corbin Gurley who had a flat right rear tire coming to green.

On the restart, Daggett was again the driver to beat, pulling away from Ridenour and Ruhl. Meanwhile, Friday night's feature winner Brad Lamberson was on the move to the front. Although he started third, Lamberson lost a couple of spots early and was fighting hard to get back into the top five, which he had done by lap four. Ridenour though was falling out of the top five quickly as Ruhl made a move for second, Lamberson came with him before the first and only red flag of the night was displayed on lap seven. Eli Lakin spun in the middle of turns one and two coming to a stop, and while trying to avoid, Frankie Neill spun into the front of Lakin, causing the 88N to hop over onto its side. All drivers were ok.

When the green flag waved, Ruhl was under fire for the second spot with Parma, Michigan's Lamberson on the offensive. Lamberson made his way into the second spot and began the mission of tracking down Daggett. It appeared that Lamberson would need a caution to have a chance at Daggett, and that's what the drivers got with nine laps to go when Zane DeVault slowed in the 16B.

The restart proved no match for Daggett's determination though, as he picked up right where he left off on the restart. Daggett opened up a half a straightaway lead on his way to the win over Lamberson, Ruhl, Danny Sams III, and Jared Horstman who finished fifth. Phil Gressman picked up the Hoosier Racing Tire Hard Charger award, picking up six spots to finish tenth.

The Home Pro Hammer Time Heat Race winners were Chase Ridenour in heat 1, Brad Lamberson in heat 2 and Dustin Daggett in heat 3. In the Beacon and Bridge Markets Last Chance race, Phil Gressman led it wire to wire to take the checkered flag and transfer to the feature. Chris Webster of Byron, MI took a nasty ride flipping down the backstretch in the first lap of the B-Main bringing out a quick red flag. Webster was coming out of turn 2 under full power when a quick yellow was thrown. A car next to Webster quickly slowed and moved up the track just enough for Webster to catch his rear tire and launching down the back stretch and coming to rest outside of turn 3. Thankfully, Chris was able to get out of his car and was ok.

The Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by Engine Pro and ARP now take a few weeks off before returning to action on Friday, July 2nd at I-96 Speedway. The Great Lakes Family of Sprints are in action, however, next weekend. Friday night, Great Lakes Lightning Sprints presented by Maxima Racing Oils will make their first appearance at Hartford Motor Speedway and Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway and Saturday night the Great Lakes Traditional Sprints presented by PERFIT will be at Butler Motor Speedway.
